Back in college I learned an underpainting method where I laid down a ground and then removed layers to reveal an image by pulling out the highlights. It is a slow process but what I have found is that sometimes the underpaintings were beautiful in their own right. So I developed my own method which I call "reverse painting". This is my first attempt in many years.

 

It reminded me of a lesson I learned recently about forgiveness and acceptance. No matter how dark the outlook, we can peel away the layers until we create something beautiful.
